2008 Maine Republican Party caucus information

Basic Info

The Maine Republican Party is encouraging all towns to hold their Caucuses on February 1, 2, and 3 of 2008. Towns are not obligated to meet at this time, but most will.

The time and place of your local Caucus must be advertised in your local newspaper no more than 7 days before the event.

Only residents that are registered to vote, in that town, as a Republican, will be allowed to participate in the caucus. The town clerk WILL send a representative to the caucus in order to verify voter registration. Democrats, Independents, Greens, Libertarians, Constitution Party members, et al can not participate in the GOP caucus.

What will happen at the local Caucus meetings:

A maximum of 3867 State convention delegates will be chosen at the local caucus meetings. You can find out the number allotted for your town here.

The caucus meeting will likely last several hours, as it will also consist of some "nuts and bolts" party business, as well as potentially some speeches by delegate candidates and lobbying time.

What will happen the State GOP convention:

Only those who have been selected as a delegate from their respective town will have the right to participate in the selection process of these 18 National Delegates.

This means we must prepare to travel to Minneapolis as national delegates in order to be sure that Ron Paul receives appropriate consideration at the national convention.
